LEWIS christmas 2008 viral
Each year, the LEWIS team are set a challenge to create a memorable Christmas card to be sent to our clients and contacts that oozes creativity, originality and embodies the festive season.
the brief
For 2008, David Lewis invited everybody at LEWIS to submit an idea to be judged and the winning idea selected by an appointed team.
All ideas were invited to be submitted with the following criteria in mind:
- Keep it simple, smart and clever.
- Show off our amazing creative skills in all disciplines digital, design, development, copywriting etc.
- Make it viral
- Make it funny or serious the choice is yours
- It should be able to be built and produced within a reasonable timescale
our idea
The winning idea was submitted by CSS designer, Stuart McMorris, who suggested filming a series of low budget, fun games with a Christmas twist in a bid to beat the credit crunch blues. So it was that the inaugural 2008 LEWIS Christmas Olympics was borne. The venues were local, the equipment lame and the funding practically non-existent. But the laughs were tipped to be plentiful!
Five different heats including the sprout eating challenge and no snow slalom were confirmed and filmed over the course of a week. The studio team worked hard to edit the films and design the landing page so that the films could be viewed. Audience participation was encouraged by inviting viewers to rate the films and upload their comments. An email was designed which included links to the videos and lively copy to set the scene.
the outcome
On Friday the 16th of December, 457 emails were delivered to our contacts of which 54% opened the email and of that figure, 25% clicked through to the Christmas site.
The site had a total of 1093 views from a total of 513 visitors showing that each visitor returned at least twice.
